Dreamweaver

Posted on Friday, 31st March, 2006 by Douglas Radburn

I was flicking through the latest issue of Web Designer magazine, and came across a letter (in the dreamweaver section) regarding developers using Dreamweaver in code view only.

I find this a bit of a bug-bare to be honest. I use Dreamweaver to produce XHTML, CSS or PHP… purely in code view. I use it because it makes my code all pretty colours and its easier to comprehend. Sure, I could use notepad, but I would be sat there for hours before realising i’d missed an “, when dreamweaver would helpfully colour my text a different colour to what I was expecting.

I’ve tried using Zend’s PHP development suite, but the use of ” really annoys me when you try and put one in the middle of some that are already there. It pairs it with the wrong ” often producing more than you wanted…

Going back to the bug-bare bit, I find it annoying, because when people ask me what program I use to produce my work, and I tell them Dreamweaver, they look at me like I’m some sort of inbred.

As Dreamweaver has become more accessible to the masses, and, without a doubt, ANYONE can produce a website, people seem to value its use less. I like Dreamweaver, it helps me work, it DOES NOT do the work for me.
