Active Content Update

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Still a little confused as to why this has been introduced. As a web guru monkey, I’ve had my ear so close to the ground, I didn’t hear about it till it happened.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer ‘Active Content Update’ disables all Flash movies until the user clicks on them.

Some useful information from Macromedia, erm… I mean Adobe on the subject, points to using javascript to either document.write or creating a flash object. Interesting. It doesn’t really affect me, as we don’t do alot of Flash work at work, we try to keep everything pretty much straight forward and accessible to everyone, but its interesting. I’m going to be doing some hunting into the method behind Microsoft’s madness, as I’m not totally convinced as to why they’ve done it…

Adobe has released an active content update for Flash 8 publishing here

The government…

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

So, Jac is on the phone to the goverment about filling in some E11 form or something… *wonders if that means more money, or less money…*. She wants to fill it in online. So, she hits a bit of a dead-end with this woman and puts me on the phone as there is a technical question about what ‘version’ apple mac we have. So, on the phone I get, and ask the question, what they want to know… what version of Internet Explorer i’m using. EXCUSE ME ?! Firstly, what the F*@K would I be using Internet Explorer on a Mac for ? and secondly, THEY DONT MAKE IT ANYMORE and thats not a new thing, support stopped this year, but they stopped making new ones in 2003!

What do I use ? Safari. Not heard of it. YOUR TECH SUPPORT!! How have you not heard of it ! Jesus…. </rant>

Weekend

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Well, I had a pretty amazingly good weekend.

Lucy came up on Friday and we met up with Alex in town and had a few pints. We knew we had to be up relatively early on Saturday, so had an early(ish) night. Saturday came, we got up, and headed down to just past Selby (south of York) as we were to wish a friend happy birthday, and watch all six star wars films back to back, as you do, perfectly natural, right ? do it all the time…

13 hours, 40 minutes if you were wondering. Lucy did the honours of driving back at 2 in the morning and we merily made it back in good time around 3, having sung along with Tenacious D in the car and mused over the meaning of the word ’stat’ used in so many American hospital programmes.

Sunday was spent mostly in Sunderland where we met up with Chris, a guy I used to work with who is also in my guild (britlore), and we ate, drank, and were generally merry.

All in all a very eventful weekend. Lucy snuck out this morning, despite me getting up at 7 to see her off, I still missed her, and now i’m sat at work…. working.

Calendar

I blogged a while back about the Sunbird calendar. Well, it appears Google want a slice of the action, and have released their beta of Google Calendar. Not bad.

Back to sleeping… on a bed !

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

After an exchange of telephone calls on Monday (and threats) I was happy to receive a phone call last night from the bed place informing me a new bar had arrived and was ready to be picked up. I looked at my watch and didn’t have a whole lot of time to get from work to the place before it closed, but I put comfort before dinner and high-tailed it over there.

“Here it is” the assistant says, walking me into a supply room.

“But its metal. Thats not the same one [mine was wood]… have they replaced it ?”

“No idea. Lets just give you the one off the bed (same type) we have in the showroom and we’ll sort all this out when you’re gone”

“Erm… okay”.

So, we begin to undress the bed, and the (looks like manager) comes across with a now, then, now, then attitude, “whats going on here?” he asks.

“Well, ” the assistant begins to explain … and she did.

“They’ve replaced the wooden one with the metal one, so you’d be much better off with the metal one”.

“Okay then”. And i’m off. Why couldn’t someone have just checked in the first place? or actually had some knowledge ?

Bah. But comfortable….

Quick note…

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Just a quick note saying that knickers2you.co.uk and sexmaduk.com have been relaunched. SmUK still needs a bit of work, but we’ve got a much bigger range of products on there, and the code behind both sites has greatly improved.

Back to sleeping on the floor…

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Some of you may know that my bed broke last year and I spent a good few months sleeping on a matress on the floor, saving up for a new bed (and generally being lazy about going and picking one out). Come December, I made my decision and it was delivered a couple of weeks after Christmas. I love this bed. Its King-Size, I love this bed… in leather, I love this bed … and has a memory foam matress. Did I mention I LOVE THIS BED ?

Well…

My Girlfriend managed to break my bed on Saturday. And no, before you get any ideas… it wasn’t like that !

But this has led me to sleeping on the floor since the incident. Atleast this time I’m sleeping on a memory foam matress on the floor, instead of an indian torture device like I was last year.

I’ve contacted the place I purchased my awesome bed, and apparently the guy that deals with replacement bits is on holiday, so I have to wait a week (with bated breath) until I find out if I can get the part replaced.

Sufficed to say, my girlfriend will be banned from coming within 10 feet of my bed once repaired to its full glory.
