Off I go…

Friday, January 20th, 2006

… well, its T-Minus 2 hours till I finish work, and drive down to Hitchin, near Luton.

I’m off ‘boarding for 10 days in Tignes Le Lac (french alps or something). I’m all packed and set and haven’t forgotten anything *i hope*. A 10 hour round trip to Luton if I do !

Loving the fact that I got Tom Tom 5 working on my phone. I *say* phone, we’re talking beast here.. the P910i from Sony Ericsson. Got a nice bluetooth GPS receiver ready and waiting. It will be interesting to see which runs out of batteries first and requires the in-car charger. (my bet is on the phone).

Anyway, have a great time while I’m away, and as a member of my guild, I would like to remind you… Dont wear pants !

Weird…

I’m redoing the coporate pages over at www.croftcircuit.co.uk and encountered some weird CSS behavior. Links (that I wanted to be white and in a small font and underlined on roll-over) weren’t working properly. the hover event was, but normal link wasn’t. i change from using a class (class=) to an id (id=), and this solved the problem (been checking it in IE).

Stuff

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Went to see the Boro game last night – super !! Haven’t been to a football match since I was in junior school and it was York vs. Crewe Alexandra.

Anyways…

More random stuff from the office. BT are apparently upgrading the exchange here to digital from analogue. how will that affect us ? no-one knows. they’re sending out an engineer tomorrow to ‘test’ the lines.. but being called on the phone and then them sending someone round, I might make sure I have no money in my wallet for them to nick when they hold us up.

Jackie (joint boss) got a letter from her dentist regarding her daughter who is supposed to have a tooth out tomorrow. The letter said that they had run out of money, but were quite happy to keep the appointment if she was willing to pay £450 to have it done. What happened to free health-care for kids ?

Also, the company upstairs wanted my input on them buying another machine. Now, I’m not sure about all this PCs for business stuff and how the whole electrical safety crap works etc… but they got quoted something like £900 for the machine and installation. I spec’d up the same machine for £450 and said i’d set it up for £50. lets see what comes of it. Might go into this whole PC building malarky as there seems to be a hefty markup !

Way, WAY too trusting…

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

I came home tonight, parked up took my food out the car and was greeted by my new neighbour on his door step with “you know how to work the boiler?!”.

Now, i’m not a gas man…. do I LOOK like a gas man ?

If he had the same one as me, then maybe I could help. “Whats type is it ?” I asked, “Erm, square” he said.

So, I opened the door, dropped my food on the door mat, locked up and wandered over… having had a look at it, I came back and thought… I just walked into a complete strangers house !!

What the hell ?!

[boiler was broken by the way]

Work…

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

It annoys me when people don’t listen. If they don’t hear me, I don’t mind repeating myself… its just that when someone sits there and goes through something and says they get it.. then asks you to repeat EVERYTHING, OVER AND OVER… it annoys me.

Google OS ?!

Wednesday, January 4th, 2006

I read with interest this article http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/03/google_pc_claim/ regarding Google breaking into the home computing business with its own O/S. Why ?! I mean, a company that makes its money from internet advertising and searching… an O/S ?

Interesting to see what happens.

and a day later…. http://hardware.silicon.com/desktops/0,39024645,39155344,00.htm
